Winterizing

Wisconsin winters are tough on marine engines, which makes proper winterization essential for protecting outboards, inboards/outboards (I/O), and sterndrive systems from freeze damage and internal corrosion. At Racine Riverside Marine, we tailor the winterization process to each engine type, ensuring that every system is treated correctly and fully prepared for months of cold-weather storage. This specialized approach keeps your motor safe and greatly reduces the risk of costly repairs in the spring.

For outboards, winterization includes stabilizing the fuel system, fogging the engine (when required by the manufacturer), inspecting key components, and protecting internal passages from condensation and corrosion. I/O and sterndrive units require additional attention, including draining cooling systems, inspecting bellows and drive components, changing gear lube, and preparing internal systems to withstand freezing temperatures. Each engine style has unique needs, and our technicians follow manufacturer-specific procedures to ensure complete protection.

Whether your vessel is stored indoors, outdoors, or in cold storage, winterization is the most important step in preserving engine health all season long. A properly winterized outboard, I/O, or sterndrive will start more reliably, run more smoothly, and avoid freeze-related damage when spring returns. With our experience and methodical service process, we make sure your engine is safeguarded and ready for a trouble-free launch next season.
