1990 Tartan Thomas 35

Racine, Wisconsin

Boat Name On Edge

Meticulously well-kept and exclusively in freshwater sailed Tartan Thomas 35 for sale

If you are looking for speed and comfort, this is your boat! Designed by Graham & Schlageter and Lindy Thomas, the T35 combines excellent performance with an extremely comfortable and well laid out interior. This fine boat built by Tartan offers great quality and is equally suited for a family day-sail or occasional racing. Only 42 T35’s were built between 1988 and 1995.

This clean-looking dual-purpose tiller boat has a stable hull with rounded bilges and a sailing waterline extended aft to a broad transom. Hull and deck are 100 per cent hand-laid biaxial fiberglass over balsa core. Wherever there are deck fittings, the deck is solid glass and has backing plates. Exterior hull surface is laminated with vinyl ester resin to prevent moisture absorption. A fiberglass grid structure is bonded to the hull to distribute rig and keel loads. The rig is a double-spreader design with masthead fore-triangle. Top-level hardware used throughout, including new Harken Radial self-tailing primary winches and newly installed Tides Strong Track system. The 10-foot-long cockpit with contoured seats and backrests are comfortable, even when the boat is heeled over. Comes with a full sail inventory and a complete set of running rigging.

Spacious and functional interior features comfortable 6’2″ headroom, a sit down nav station, full galley and five large berths: a double V berth forward, two quarter-berths and two 6’6”settee’s in the main cabin. Settee seatbacks fold up into pilot berths for additional sleeping or gear storage. The full cruising comfort includes enclosed head, hot and cold pressure water with shower, refrigerator/freezer icebox, alcohol stove w/ oven, teak fold down table for dining. The attention to detail is evident in the careful glasswork, teak and holly sole and interior teak trim. 8 Lewmar opening ports, 2 Lewmar overhead hatches and two solar vents all make for excellent ventilation.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The T35 is Thomas Marine’s solution to the dilemma of combining racing performance with cruising accommodations at an affordable price. The T35 is a state-of-the-art design with high-performance capabilities wrapped around a practical, comfortable interior. The T35 is a Graham & Schlageter IMS optimized design whose performance ranks it with much larger yachts, yet whose one-design character will ultimately provide rating-free racing to avoid obsolescence and provide an interior suitable for cruising expectations. This yacht is built in accordance with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) approved plans. Hull and deck are 100 per cent hand-laid biaxial fiberglass over balsa core. Exterior hull surface is laminated with vinylester resin to prevent moisture absorption. A fiberglass grid structure is bonded to the hull to distribute rig and keel loads. Special attention was given to deck design. The 10-foot long, T-shaped, self-bailing cockpit with contoured seats and backrests provides comfort and mobility while sailing. Quality deck hardware, such as Lewmar hatches and opening ports, Harken and Schaefer blocks, Sparcraft rig, and Harken winches, make it easy to concentrate on sailing. The masthead rig is supported by double swept-back spreaders with no need for running backstays or babystays.  A complete set of running rigging is included. The interior is open, airy, and practical. The list of standard equipment is impressive: pressure hot and cold running water, stainless steel sink, icebox, shore power, seven large bunks including a V-berth, two-burner stove with oven, enclosed head with shower and a 28 hp diesel to push the yacht at 7 knots. Teak trim is used throughout to accent the easy-care gelcoat and Formica. Early sailing experience with the T35 shows her clear superiority in speed and comfort over all boats in her size range. Her speed is equal to that of most 42-foot boats. In light air she easily sails to her IMS rating and can carry her genoa in 20 knots of wind. In a breeze she’s a delight to steer
